Last May we launched our first after-school program in Juticalpa, Honduras.
We have since provided 114 fun and engaging activities, 2,432 free lunches and 130 gallons of clean water to 45 amazing students!
In rural Honduras more than 25% of students drop out before finishing primary school. Our first partner school, Escuela Lic. Ramon Daniel Sarmiento, exemplifies the typical experience for a young student living in the countryside. The small, bare-bones facility houses the entire student body of 45 children within a very limited space and has no lighting, running water, or bathroom.
Our goal was to use extracurricular activities to excite the students about school and fuel their interest in education. We set out to accomplish this by providing healthy food, clean water and engaging activities. Our initial expectations were quickly exceeded as students participated enthusiastically in the program and daily attendance hit an all time high! With the school year in Honduras rapidly coming to a close, we’d like to keep this momentum going! Summer is short and there are many things that need to be prepared so we can hit the ground running on the first day of school.
For us to not only run, but to improve our program next year, we are aiming to raise $15,000 - which covers food, clean water, activities supplies, teacher salaries and operational costs.
But we can’t GO without your help!
Donate today, and help us give every child a chance to succeed.
